St. Charles Bulletin for September
2, 2001
22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
The printed version of this bulletin included

(PDF) for
Lord, Teach Us to Pray, a day focused on
prayer on Sept. 22
and New Counseling Intern announcement
FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear St. Charles Parishioners:
"The one who humbles himself will be exalted". We live in a
culture of self promotion and devil take the hindmost. The world of work
that we celebrate on Labor Day is often an arena of negative competition
taken over by the struggle for status and power.
At the same time, we are witnessing a new interest in spirituality in
the work place. Many want more congruity between their values and their
work. Our energies need to support our highest aspirations. The church
brings to our labor a vision of work as a participation in the ongoing
work of God's creation and a call to equality and human dignity.
The Living Wage movement responds to age old teachings
on a just wage and a preferential option for the lowest paid. I am happy
to report that our Finance Committee has joined me in a policy to provide
a living wage to all in the employ of St. Charles, so that the least paid
meet the standards of the movement we advocate.
God Bless the work!

P.S. Please visit our Library to offer your comments on the designs for
a Parish Center.
PARKING FOR MASS
ALERT!! Please do not park at the curb on the Fairfax Drive side of the
church. It is a "NO PARKING" zone and you may be ticketed. We
are working on the traffic flow in the Church parking lot to avoid parking
difficulties. Please be patient with our volunteers - they are working
very hard to help everyone. If you would like to become a member of this
volunteer team, please call Marvin Mayorga at the Parish Office. Thank
you for your cooperation!
BREAKING THE CYCLE OF CRIME
Help Fr. Gerry to help the Good News prison Ministry. On Friday, September
28, 2001, golfers from all walks of life will gather at the Fairfax National
Golf Course in Centreville, VA and drive golf balls down the fairways
with one purpose in mind. All proceeds from this Good News Golf Marathon
will directly support the Fairfax Chaplaincy at the Fairfax County Adult
Detention Center. Sponsor Fr. Gerry by pledging $1, $2, $5 or $10 per
hole. Sponsorship forms can be picked-up in the Parish Office.
PLEASE NOTE: The Parish Office and School will be closed on Monday, September
3rd in observance of Labor Day.

SCHOOL NEW S
Dear Friends in Christ, Over the years, your outstanding generosity to
St. Charles School Scholarship Fund (better known as Sr. B's Kids) has
provided a Catholic Education to many underprivileged children. For this,
we are deeply grateful. Please be assured that you and yours are remembered
in our daily prayers. Again, I appeal to your "giving hearts"
as we prepare to begin a new school year. No amount is too large or too
small to help prepare these children for a brighter future. God loves
you and I do too. Your continued support is a blessing. Checks can be
made payable to "St. Charles School Scholarship Fund". LIVE
THE SPIRIT! In Him Always, Sister Benedict, O.S.B.
Ministry
If
human beings were convinced that we are called to live together that
it is wonderful to come to know one another, to respect and help one
another,
the world would be radically different..
