St. Charles Bulletin for September 9, 2001

23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

from the pastor...FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear St. Charles Parishioners:

This Sunday at 6:00 PM with our special Youth Mass, we kick off another year of Way and On The Way, our 6th through 12th grade youth ministry programs. I join our catechists and advisers in welcoming our teenagers to a year of growth in faith and friendship.

I urge all our parents to consider the various educational programs offered at St. Charles to foster the faith of children and adults. We also have RCIA and Landings for those who are exploring the faith or returning to Church.

May this new academic year be a time of renewed dedication to the task of evangelization.

Rev. Gerry Creedon

PARKING FOR MASS
ALERT!! Please do not park at the curb on the Fairfax Drive side of the church. It is a "NO PARKING" zone and you may be ticketed. We are working on the traffic flow in the Church parking lot to avoid parking difficulties. Please be patient with our volunteers - they are working very hard to help everyone. Thank you for your cooperation!

BREAKING THE CYCLE OF CRIME

Respect LifeMinistry

Whenever there is lost consciousness of the fact that every man is an object of concern for us just because he is man, civilization and morals are shaken, and the advance to fully developed inhumanity is only a matter of time..

IN OUR PARISH

TOP PARISH WEB PAGES FOR AUGUST
The August calendar knocked out the Ministries index from the #5 slot on our list of most popular pages on www.stcharleschurch.org in August. The top four pages were unchanged from last month, with the parish home page in first place, followed by the celebrants' schedule (who's saying which Mass), the virtual parish Office forms and staff listing) and C'YA (young adults). In the battle of the ministries, the Web Team edged out Social Justice in popularity, with RCIA making strong gains. The most popular form remained religious education registration and the Haiti newsletter was the most popular newsletter. You'll find these and 100's of more pages on your parish website, so visit us this week to keep connected to your parish.

SCHOOL NEWS
Over the years, your outstanding generosity to St. Charles School Scholarship Fund has provided a Catholic Education to many underprivileged children. Again, I appeal to your "giving hearts" as we have begun a new school year. No amount is too large or too small to help prepare these children for a brighter future. Checks can be made payable to "St. Charles School Scholarship Fund". LIVE THE SPIRIT! In Him Always, Sister Benedict, O.S.B

PASTORAL COUNSELING INTERNS
We have two wise and seasoned interns to serve us this year. Cecilia Herrera, who joined us on August 27th, and Carl Ripley, who will continue his work with us. Cecilia has worked with Catholic Charities where she counseled English and Spanish speaking clients. She worked with Project Family, a parent education program for Hispanic families and has done self-esteem programs for young people. Look for her introduction at ww.stcharleschurch.org under Pastoral Counseling. Call 703-527-5500 for appointments.

MARRIAGE JUBILEE MASS
Are you celebrating your Silver or Golden Marriage Jubilee this year? Were you married in 1951 or 1976? Then contact the parish office to make sure that you are registered for the "2001 Marriage Jubilee Mass". This Mass will be celebrated at 2:30PM on October 14th at the Cathedral, but the parish office has to submit all registrations to the Office for Family Life on/before September 20th. Call the Parish Office with questions.
