"Torture is a Moral Issue"
We live in a time when we are surrounded by horrific images of waterboarding
and electrocution. In this era where we feel as if we are under constant
threat, it can be difficult to know what we should do for security,
and where to draw the line of immorality. We will be meeting Tuesday
evenings at 7pm from July 29th and through August 19th, in room 104.
We will be using a study guide produced by the U.S. Catholic Bishops
on the subject. For more information, contact Marisa Vertrees, mvertrees@stcharleschurch.org,
or at 703-527-5500, ext 126.
BUILDING FUND UPDATE
Many thanks, to all of our St. Charles Borromeo parishioners, for your
continuous commitment
to our Building Fund. Through your generous participation, we collected
an amount of $7,676.12 during the weekend of July 5th and 6th. However,
we still need to achieve $10,000.00 per month through our Building Fund
second collections in order to make up the difference for our monthly
loan payments to the Diocese. Please remember, if you are planning on
being away for a summer vacation, we encourage you to consider making
your donations through our EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer) system. This
is a convenient way for you to still give even if you are going to be
away. Additionally, by honoring your pledge commitments, you are investing
in capital improvements that are necessary to our facilities infrastructure,
and the future of St. Charles. Thank you & God Bless!
BACKPACK COLLECTION
Just a reminder that during July we will be collecting the following
school supplies for the children in grades K-12 who live in the Affordable
Housing Communities of the Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing:
backpacks, #2 pencils, blue & black ink pens, one-subject spiral
notebook or composition notebooks and pocket folders. Donations can
be dropped off at the Parish Office. Contact Jo-Ann Duggan in the office
if you have any questions. Backpacks are due by July 31. Thank you!
EXPRESS YOUR FAITH
A disciple will acknowledge that Almighty God alone is creator and it
is through His blessings that we have received generous gifts, spiritual
and temporal during our lifetime. Let your last will include a testament
to your faith with a bequest to benefit St. Charles Borromeo Church
in any amount. For more information, call the diocesan Planned Giving
Office at 703-841-2516 or visit www.arlingtondiocese.planyourlegacy.org
