Q. So why is the bulletin 2 pages one week and 4 pages the next?
During the summer we are trying out some new formats. If we stick to
the longer format we need to secure more advertisers for the back of
our bulletin. Did you know our bulletin is printed free for the parish
because of our sponsors! Do you have a business to promote or know of
one that would like some patronage from the fine folks of St. Charles?
Contact Tricia Clark at the Parish Office.
BOOK RECOMMENDATION
Fr. Creedon recommends: "Wounded Prophet - A Portrait of Henri J.M.
Nouwen" by Michael Ford, published by Doubleday (1999). "…gives an honest
and well-balanced account of (his entire) life that leaves no stone
unturned… (and includes) the L'Arche Daybreak community in Toronto."
This book is recommended for adults.
SPONSOR OF THE WEEK: Our Thanks to Susanne Hardy Nolan, CFP,
for her support.
| Young Adults (in their 20s and 30s) |
To receive an invitation to join the St. C Young Adults listserv for
those in their 20s and 30s, send an email to youngadults@stcharleschurch.org

Are you retired, semi-retired, or free in the morning? Are you looking
to meet new friends at St. Charles? Then you must plan to join us Friday,
August 14 for our summer Senior Brunch. Usually our Senior Teas follow
the noon Mass on weekday Holy Days of Obligation, but this year the
Assumption of Mary falls on a Saturday so we will have our summer gathering
on Friday, August 14. We will gather after the 9:00am Mass in Benedict
Hall for brunch and fellowship. RSVP to Norma at 202-531-8189 or njjcanels@cox.net.
We are looking for about 5 more mentor couples to work with engaged
couples as they prepare for their life together. If you'd like to know

We are very grateful for your continued generosity to those in need
during these difficult economic times. Our Food Pantry is extremely

REFLECTION ON POPE TEACHING
The USCCB has produced a guide for individual reflection on the recent
papal encyclical, Caritas in Veritate. This, Pope Benedict XVI's third
encyclical, addresses our current economic crisis, and speaks to the
way we must live in both local and global communities, how to create
a more just society. www.usccb.org/jphd/caritasinveritate
SALT UPDATE
Social Action Linking Together, SALT has been a leader for the Fair
Wage Act. On July 24, the final stage of the 2007 federal wage increase
was implemented, raising minimum wage from $6.55 to $7.25. The legislation,
the "Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007", raised the pay for the
nation's lowest-income workers from $5.15 an hour to $7.25 over a three-step
process with the final increase occurring on Friday July 24th. SALT
thanks parishioners and advocate partners for adding your voice to let
working families escape poverty. Visit www.S-A-L-T.org
