Getting Involved

Getting involved in a new (or even “old”) parish can be difficult, especially in a parish like St. Charles where there are so many activities going on:

1.  Why get involved?

Our Baptism makes us “do-ers,” not spectators in our faith.  We need constantly to grow in our faith and help others.  As a parish, our role is to provide those opportunities and encourage your involvement.  As you become involved with your fellow parishioners, you will find the wonderful gift of community.

2.  Do I have the time to get involved?

Just as we should plan our financial giving, we should plan to tithe a percentage of our time to growing in our own faith and to helping others each year.  Even if life gets completely out-of-hand, we encourage you to stay in touch with what is going on in the parish and be open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

3.  What do all these ministries / organizations do?

We hope this web site gives you an overview of many of the parish ministries / organizations.  However, to stay in touch with what is going on, follow St. Charles on Facebook and Twitter and read the bulletin.  Whenever possible, we try to ensure each activity provides some time for faith sharing as well as for socializing.

4.  How do I pick the one for me?

Feel free to drop-in on a meeting of a ministry / organization that seems interesting.

5.  Do they need me?

Yes!  To find specific, current needs visit http://groups.google.com/group/stcharles-volunteers

6.  I don’t have any special skills?

Most of our parish activities do not require any special skills, experience, or knowledge.  We just need your interest and your energy.

7.  I know what I want to do, but I don’t see it on the list of parish ministries?

If you are willing to work to make your idea into a parish ministry or activity, please call Fr. Tuck in the parish office and set-up an appointment with him to discuss your idea and how you see it could be implemented.

8.  I’m not sure, but I think I have a calling to pursue a religious vocation?

Fr. Tuck would be delighted to talk with you about what he says is “the best job in the world – working for God.”  Please call or email him (hgrinnell@stcharleschurch.org) for an appointment to discuss.

9.  I’d like to sign-up for a ministry / activity.
